Title: Fringe Benefit Vocabulary
Contributor: Sue Kraul
Materials: "Fringe Benefit Vocabulary" handout
Procedure:

Distribute "Fringe Benefit Vocabulary" and discuss. Ask students for examples of insurance and dental plans that they may participate in or may be available through their parent's employers.

Divide class into groups of 2-3 students and ask them to select one of the following activities. Each group is to compile their information and make a presentation to the class including a handout listing their findings.

  1. Have students call different businesses and ask about the benefits they offer.

  2. Make a list of the benefits that working students in the class receive.
  3. Have students research and keep a list of benefits employees receive in a job that does not require a diploma, one that does, one that requires a college degree, and one that requires an advanced degree.
  4. Have students call an insurance agency and find out how much comparable insurance would cost in the private market.
  5. Have students call dentists and doctors to find out the difference between costs with insurance and without insurance.
