I have a set of pictures that are inherently ambiguous.
Each picture is an action scene of some type. No discussion
is held regarding the pictures. Each student is given
ten of fifteen minutes to write a story, but the story
must answer three questions, and in the following
sequence:
-
What is going on right now?
-
What led up to the current event?
-
What is the final outcome?
I have the students reduce their impressions to
writing. The impressions can then be shared, expressed
in dialogs, or as artwork. The stories are always
original and attention-getters.
This exercise has worked fantastically every time
I have used it.
