Title: House Painting Calculations
Contributor: Blueprint 2000 Lesson Activities, developed by Dr. James Croteau, Leon County Schools and Rhonda Flanagan, FSU Center for the Study of Teaching and Learning
Materials: Dimensions of a house; estimate from a house painter
Procedure:
  1. Given the dimensions of a house, students will calculate the interior and exterior areas to be painted.

  2. Given a room, the students will measure height, length, width, windows, and doors then calculate the area to be painted.

  3. Given a house with specific dimensions and an estimate from a professional painter of what one painter can paint in one day, students will calculate how long it would take for three people to paint the interior and exterior.

  4. Given a house with specified interior and exterior dimensions, students will determine the type and amount of paint and supplies needed and compare cost between three supply stores.
