Plan a party |

Blueprint 2000 Lesson Activities, developed by Dr. James

for the Study of Teaching and Learning |
| Materials: |
Information on cultural celebrations |
| Procedure: |
- Students in small groups are given all the factors
necessary to plan a party (party type, number of
people, menu considerations, etc.), and are asked
to define responsibilities, plan all key elements
and create options for rain or other problems.
- Students list different types of events that usually
involve celebrations in our country. Small groups
pick one type of event and develop complete plans
from invitations to clean up. Plans are presented
to another group for feedback and additional items
to consider.
- Students plan and implement a party for the class.
All responsibilities are to be identified, with
limits to cost, attendees, time, and theme. Responsibilities
should be implemented through a committee structure.
- Celebrations of different cultures will be researched
including the types of events or holidays celebrated
and the food and activities held at these. Cultural
similarities and differences will be examined and
discussed between groups. Students will contribute
food or an activity to a cultural celebration in
the community, making arrangements with the organizers,
planning student responsibilities and attending
the event.
Note: Because of the variety of skills used
in these activities, all are good ways to get students
with varying levels of skills involved in one activity
together.
