| Materials: |
Coins |
| Procedure: |
- Verbal/Linguistic: State and discuss various
coin combinations. Verbally review everyday.
- Logical/Mathematical: Count number of
coins to make various combinations. Count value
of coins if appropriate.
- Visual/Spatial: Match and copy patterns
of coins (sample on following page).
- Musical/Rythmic: Sing or chant various
coin combinations. If possible, make it silly or
funny. Let students make up their own.
- Bodily/Kinesthetic: If possible, practice
using school snack machines, or develop other "hands-on"
activities using manipulatives such as rolling or
stacking different coins in the same amount and
comparing the sizes of the stacks; using a coin
sorter; counting different combinations of coins
in a bank and comparing numbers of coins and weights
of banks.
- Interpersonal: Practice with a partner
any of the aforementioned activities, including
helping a friend with using the snack machine or
helping a classmate make a small purchase at a convenience
store.
- Intrapersonal: Have students think about
and decide how to make sure that they have the right
coins to buy the snacks and beverages wanted each
day.
- Naturalist: (affinity with natural environment)
Discuss and practice what to do when the snack machines
don't work or when an item planned for purchase
in a store is not there.
