Making references to time throughout the class helps
students learn about telling time, see its usefulness
and understand the concept behind it. Below are activities
which keep time in the classroom.
- Make and post a class schedule. Refer to the schedule
throughout the day. (Any class should be able to
use a schedule. Even if you don't schedule particular
times for working on math skills or reading skills,
there is a specific starting and ending time, there
can be a specific break time, perhaps you could
add a specific clean up time.)
- For higher level time, have students write down
the actual start and finish time of their personal
or small group activities. Appoint someone to be
a timekeeper for whole class activities.
- Post a class calendar with long-term dates on
it.
- Have each student fill out a monthly calendar.
This familiarizes the student with the purpose of
a calendar and lets you engage in some goal-setting
with the student.
