Title: Food Fun
Contributor: Melody Chaykin, TLC Resource Guide, Broward Co.
Materials: Boxes and/or labels from food products; file folders; paste or glue; markers
Procedure:

Teacher pastes food labels inside file folders. The teacher then writes on the opposite side of the folder 3 - 5 questions about the information on the food labels. Students answer questions verbally or in writing on a separate sheet of paper. Using the file folders makes these activities sturdy enough to be used many times. The folders can also be used to collect other work from other activities build around the food label information (writing samples, other math activities, graphs, etc.).

Sample Questions:

  1. How many ounces are in the package?

  2. How many servings are in the package?

  3. How many calories are in each serving?

  4. How much sodium is in each serving?
