Are These Stress Management Behaviors Part of Your Life?

 _____  I avoid overeating, especially when I'm bored or depressed.
 _____  I have close friends I can confide in about personal matters.
 _____  I take quiet time for myself every day.
 _____  I try to speak openly about my feelings.
 _____  I manage my time effectively.
 _____  I know how to say no to people.
 _____  I make time for social activities, hobbies, and having fun.
 _____  I try to stay away from negative people.
 _____  I allow myself to make mistakes and learn from them.
 _____  I get strength from my beliefs (religious, humanist, spiritual).
 _____  I am able to laugh at myself and regain a sense of perspective.
 _____  I avoid overextending myself in terms of time and energy.
 _____  I don't allow myself to be baited into senseless arguments.
 _____  I don't expend energy trying to change other people.
 _____  I recognize that headaches, colds, insomnia, backaches, and fatigue may be
             signs of stress and I do something about it.
 _____  I allow myself to receive compliments and other positive "strokes" graciously,
             knowing that I deserve them.
 _____  I keep a diary to gain perspective of my feelings or frustrations.
 _____  I call a help line when stress is overwhelming.
 _____  And most of all, I remind myself that I have control over my life; I am not a
             helpless victim at the mercy of others.
